more bus stops...

Driving around the local district I discovered even more incredible artwork on the bus stops. You've just gotta smile as you drive past.

These images are just magic, I thought them too amazing not to share with you.

Have a wonderful weekend full of joy and the coming of spring and to all those special fathers in Australia, have a lovely Fathers day!

the bus stop

Have you ever given much thought to the design of your local bus shelter? This bus stop on St Georges Terrace in Perth has been decorated to reflect the WA Princely Treasures exhibition.Stephano Carboni, director of the Art Gallery of WA was behind the fabulous revamp."We wanted to engage people in an unexpected way to bring the exhibition to life."

The bus shelters of my youth were all drab grey concrete, there are only a few left in my area however they always make me smile as I drive past. Firstly because they have been beautifully painted by local artists and school children and secondly because of the memories that they conjure up of my childhood.

Fabulous memories of girls telling each other secrets, hunky boys having a smoke, or that heady moment when the cool guy says "hi" or perhaps smiles at you.
Many secrets have been shared, parties organised or relationships started at the bus stop...if only they could talk!

Did you catch the bus to school and have fond memories of those carefree days?
Have a great week and maybe find the time to catch a bus and transport yourself back to your youth!

More St Werburghs...

I've always been facinated by the way that wood ages over many years. Our harsh Australian light plays upon its surfaces and changes it over time to beautiful shades of grey. Most of the wooden doors at Saint Werburghs are original, making them over 150 years old.

The various doors on the property that lead into storage rooms, tack rooms, shearing sheds and barns could be descibed as old and worn but to me they have a magical appeal. Not only is their patina extraordinary but I like to imagine about the lives of the various generations of children carrying their saddles back to the tack room or the hundreds of young bronzed shearers who have climbed the steps into the shed, eager for a good days work and a beer to finish up.

Have a lovely weekend, hopefully some magical doors may open up for you. Andrina x

St Werburghs...

Saint Werburghs homestead and chapel are set amongst the beautiful rolling hills of the shire of Plantagenet in the great southern region of WA. I was lucky enough to spend a few days staying on this magnificent property.
The property has been in the family for 7 generations and the homestead and outlying buildings have been lovingly restored by my gorgeous friend Jenny and her husband.

The original oak and elm trees in the garden are enormous and were planted when the family settled here in 1840, they tower over the spring and summer bulbs and give much respite from the harsh summer heat.

The homestead has beautiful views down the valley towards one of the oldest consecrated chapels in WA. Many family members are buried in the tiny graveyard adjacent to the chapel.

Have a lovely week. Andrina x

Destination...Fratelli Fresh

Dank street in Waterloo is a hive of activity. It's always one of my favourite destinations while catching up with family in Sydney.I love having lunch in the vibrant wharehouse atmosphere of Fratelli Fresh. They make the best pasta and salads imaginable...outside of Italy. On my last visit I had the broad bean and sage risotto with bacon and parmesan with a side salad of warm mushroom treviso and pecorino. The taste and textures of these dishes was incredible.

Must fly today, I'm off to the country and the weather alert is out, so have a nice week and I'll talk to you soon. Andrina x

Destination...Fourth Village

Eating out in Sydney is always such a delight. Funky restaurants and bistros abound the city and inner suburbs. My favourite place to eat and purchase home providore goods is Fourth Village in Mosman.

Fourth Village is not only a top class Italian restaurant, but an amazing providore store, packed with many great Italian brands essential for cooking a classic Italian meal. Wandering around the store always reminds me of the French and Italian markets. The produce is dislpayed the old fashioned way in baskets and boxes using blackboards to announce the various prices.

The restaurant has had many accolades over the last few years and is always in the top five for the best pizzas in Sydney. Head Chef Flavio, weaves his magic from years spent in Sardinia learning the art of Italian cooking. On my last visit to Fourth Village I tried the Pesto Trapanese and Spaghettino Alla Bottarga, amazing flavours and texture.

Have a lovely weekend. Andrina x
